Programming Lighting – A Milestone

  • February 19, 2010 5:23 AM

Part of the resume building I’ve been working on has included lighting programming, and I believe I’ve hit a milestone. I have now programmed my most complex show to date. I do my programming in the Jands Vista software, on an S1 console. Our installation includes 35 fixed lights (Source 4′s), 16 gel scrolling fixtures (Apollo Smartcolor 7.25 scrollers mounted on Source Four Pars), 6 Robe ColorSpot 250′s, and six chinese off brand LED floor lights. A quite capable installation, and one that has proven to be quite the educational benefactor.

So my milestone is this: Individual clips per song, each with openers, builds, faders, and automated releases to advance to the next song. Each clip is assigned to a Playback fader on the S1 console (I wish I had more of these… A T2 would be wonderful!) to allow for organic adjustment in the middle of a live show. The system handles all of this with ease, so I’m looking forward to pushing it to the limit in the future.

A New Outlook

Well, this is the first real post on my new blag engine. Hurrah! It also happens to fall on an interesting day.

I was hit by a car today, and I think I appreciate running around in the sun a bit more than I did yesterday. Had the car been going a bit faster, and had I been looking any other direction, I may not have come out unscathed (On a related note, people above the age of 80 should have to retake their driving test…). I think I need to stop dicking around, and do something with my life that matters. I don’t know what that is today, but I do know that I’ll be focusing on improving myself until I can figure it out.

So, welcome to my blag. Hope you like it.
